Men volunteered less because if they waited, they knew that a woman would volunteer. In all male groups, they had no trouble getting volunteers. If there were no women there, men volunteered just fine.

The even more interesting part was that, when managers were asked to choose someone to do thankless work, they asked women 44% more than they asked men.
